Start with the customers you want to reach
A High Street retailer, a plumber based in Heybridge and a visitor attraction near Langford need different ways to be found. Begin with the work you actually do and the places you serve. A useful profile should let someone decide whether you are relevant without piecing together an address, phone number and service list from several websites.
Add a free listing to Maldon.org.uk
Our independently published directory covers Maldon, Heybridge and nearby Blackwater villages. Standard listings are free and reviewed before appearing. An approved profile can include a description, category, service tags, phone number, website and business image. It gives local customers another route to discover your business and visit your own website.
Describe your real base and coverage
Use the town or village where you are based, then explain whether customers visit, you travel to them or you deliver. Our areas include Heybridge Basin, Langford, Great and Little Totham, Wickham Bishops, Woodham Walter, Woodham Mortimer, Purleigh, Mundon, Goldhanger, Tollesbury and the Tolleshunt villages. Being willing to travel somewhere does not make it a second office.
Prepare the details before you submit
Write a clear description of your main services and who they are for. Choose relevant service tags, add a working phone number and your own website, and use a logo or a real image of your business or work. Supply an email you control for owner-edit links. It stays private unless you choose to display it publicly.
Keep your Google profile and website consistent
Eligible businesses can manage their presence in Google Search and Maps with Google Business Profile. Keep your name, address arrangements, contact details and opening information accurate across the places you maintain. A directory profile can complement that work, but neither a listing nor a backlink guarantees a particular search position.
Explore the local routes that fit your business
Maldon District Council’s business information and Locate Maldon District offer a starting point for local support and opportunities. Visitor-facing businesses can investigate relevant tourism promotion through Visit Maldon District. Check current eligibility and any costs directly; a town-centre shop, mobile trade and attraction will not all benefit from the same channels.
Keep the profile useful after launch
Search for an existing listing before adding another. Use the owner-edit option when your services, phone number, image or website changes, and review the description as the business grows. A few accurate, maintained profiles are more useful to customers than a long trail of forgotten entries.
